Hey, it's CJ here! Welcome to True Point of Creation, the place where magazines stop being junk mail and start becoming actual art. I started this whole thing because I wanted to show people that you don't have to be a "real artist" to make something amazing. All you need is a pair of scissors, some old magazines and the willingness to just have fun with it. Stick around because there is a ton of good stuff on this website for you. I have even been building out “The Free Creative Playground” which now has its own individual page on the website under the “Playground” tab so definitely check it out before you leave!

For this piece, I wanted to do something fun with a vintage travel vibe. It features a girl on a scooter touring around Rome, but in a surreal way. She’s got a compass in her hand and an old-school radio for a head. I used a bunch of different angles of the Colosseum and ancient pillars in the background to kind of play tricks on your eyes. It’s meant to feel like a weird, trippy vacation where the history is loud and the directions don't really matter.

This piece is a bit of a surreal mystery set in the desert. I’ve got these tiny people climbing out of a hole in the sand, each one making off with a huge, shiny jewel. But if you look in the background, things get weird. There are these giant Egyptian-style temples and two massive figures watching everything. A cheetah and a person draped in buffalo hide with a literal jewel for a face. It’s got this vibe that the people think they’re getting rich, but they might actually be stumbling into a curse. I wanted to play with the scale to show that the "wealth" they found is much bigger and more dangerous than they realize.

For this piece, I wanted to take a classic western scene and turn it into something a little surreal. I used some vintage magazine clippings to show a cowboy and cowgirl riding their horses out into the deep desert. But instead of just endless sand, the main focus is this massive green boa winding its way over the rocks. It creates this wild contrast between the dusty, old-school road trip vibe and a giant creature that totally dominates the landscape. It’s just a fun way to mix the texture of the desert with the pattern of the snake.

This piece is a fun, surreal take on a classic afternoon at home. I used some vintage clippings to set the scene with a lady just relaxing in her teal chair, catching up on a phone call with some flowers on the table next to her. The twist is this huge toucan head poking in from the side, looking like he’s trying to eavesdrop on her whole conversation. I also added a smaller bird flying across the top to keep the energy light and airy. It’s a minimal layout, but I love the weird, funny vibe of having a giant tropical bird as a silent partner on the call.
